Bonjeruk Today – Living the Dream
After more than seven years of collective effort, Bonjeruk has truly come to life as a model of sustainable and community-based tourism. Visitors can now enjoy a variety of authentic experiences that reflect the daily rhythm, creativity, and hospitality of the village.
Among the most popular activities are walking tours through the scenic countryside — where guests can witness traditional life, learn about local coffee roasting, hand-weaving, ginger processing, and visit the ancient royal tombs of the former Kedatuan Jonggat. Those who love cooking can join a village cooking class, preparing Bonjeruk’s signature dishes such as Ayam Merangkat and Sate Kuncung, followed by a relaxing lunch by the rice fields.
For nature enthusiasts, cycling around the village is highly recommended — a refreshing way to explore Bonjeruk’s lush rice paddies, fruit gardens, and historical colonial sites, ending with coffee and traditional snacks served by the bamboo groves.
The village also produces a range of local products, from ginger rolls and traditional cakes made with local fruits, to herbal drinks and edible flower beverages like butterfly pea tea and cincau cendol. Women’s groups in the village proudly craft woven bags, scarves, and clothes, as well as natural herbal lotions, supporting both creativity and economic empowerment.
Bonjeruk now offers ten cozy homestays, allowing visitors to experience authentic rural life, and features five eco-inspired culinary spots designed in Bonjeruk’s classic architectural style, surrounded by rice fields and bamboo gardens.
Today, more than 90 people work as tourism managers, while over 300 villagers contribute as local producers and suppliers — creating a vibrant circular economy that benefits everyone.
Bonjeruk’s success has been recognized nationally, with prestigious awards such as the ADWI Award from the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Dewiku Award from Bank Indonesia, IMA Awards, and several honors from regional governments.
Looking ahead, Bonjeruk aims to become a village hub for sustainable tourism in Lombok, attracting visitors from across Indonesia and around the world. With its deep cultural roots, strong environmental values, and community-driven spirit, Bonjeruk continues to prove that tourism can thrive hand in hand with culture, nature, and the wellbeing of its people.
